Participative learning
Through my experience of working with people I have developed a model of working that builds people’s confidence and empowers them to become more in control of their life choices.

Group work allows people to participate in shared learning experiences which enables them to look at their life challenges in a solution focused way.

By offering bespoke courses, designed to meet the needs of the target group and by facilitating the group there is group participation in problem solving and sharing of life experiences.  A unique approach to this participative group work is utilising peer education and this allows people to see that they can change their life pathways, gives people hope! This results in people becoming active in their decision making processes and being signposted onto appropriate services.

My work methods promote people re-gaining self esteem and confidence and this enables individuals to utilise their skills and knowledge in their resettlement process. By highlighting the fact people have rights and providing practical tools in how to achieve these rights people feel more confident to achieve their aspirations and dreams. Through experiential learning people can turn what was a negative experience into a positive outcome, using the practical and emotional toolkits gained from their participation in group work and courses. They are more able to manage and take control of their lives.

In my work with vulnerable and excluded groups within communities I let them know that I have expectations of them, reflect back the skills and abilities they possess and through group work enable people to see that small manageable steps, in their life journeys, are achievable.

Please read on for examples of courses:
Facilitation of programmes of learning and self-development for vulnerable people and the staff working with them - using an experiential learning model and the skills and experience of peer educators.

Peer educators are individuals who have experienced difficult times, for example homelessness, mental ill health, poverty and have been trained in how to deliver training sessions incorporating aspects of their experience, to highlight learning outcomes.
